New York Knicks Advance to Second Round of Playoffs
Knicks close out first-round series with 3-1 victory over Cavaliers
Brunson, Barrett lead Knicks to 106-95 win in Game 5
The New York Knicks have advanced to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 106-95 in Game 5 on Wednesday night.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 23 points, while RJ Barrett added 21. The Knicks took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Cavaliers 33-24 to take a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter.
"We just wanted to come out and play hard," said Brunson. "We knew they were going to be a tough opponent, but we just stayed focused and executed our game plan."
The Cavaliers were led by Darius Garland, who had 20 points. Evan Mobley added 18 points and 11 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Knicks' balanced attack.
"We just didn't make enough plays down the stretch," said Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff. "We had some good looks at the basket, but we couldn't get them to fall."
The Knicks will now face the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the playoffs. Game 1 of the series is scheduled for Saturday night in Milwaukee.
