NFL tight end Darren Waller has announced his retirement from the league after eight seasons.
In an emotional YouTube video shared on Sunday, the 31-year-old Waller revealed that he suffered a near-death experience during the 2022 season while playing for the New York Giants.
Without providing specific details, Waller described the incident as a "life-threatening injury" that required extensive medical treatment.
Waller, who played for the Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, and Giants during his career, said he made the decision to retire after consulting with medical professionals and his family.
"It was an incredibly difficult decision, but I know it's the right one for my health and my future," Waller said in the video.
