The Lahti Pelicans have taken an early lead in their semifinal series against the Oulu Kärpät after a hard-fought 4-3 victory on Saturday night. Despite trailing three times during the game, the Pelicans showed resilience to come back and secure the win.
The game started with a bang, as Kärpät's Otto Karvinen opened the scoring just over a minute into the first period. However, the Pelicans answered back quickly, with Otto Paajanen tying the game just over three minutes later. Kärpät regained the lead in the second period, with goals from Aleksi Heponiemi and David Rundblad. But again, the Pelicans refused to give up, with Saku Mäenalanen and Juuso Ikonen scoring to tie the game heading into the third period.
The third period was a tense affair, with both teams trading chances. But it was the Pelicans who eventually broke the deadlock, with Hannes Björninen scoring the go-ahead goal midway through the period. The Kärpät pulled their goalie with less than two minutes remaining in the game, but the Pelicans held on to secure the win.
The Pelicans now have a 2-0 lead in the series, and they will look to close it out in Lahti on Tuesday night. The Kärpät, on the other hand, will need to win both games at home if they want to keep their season alive.
